E.J. Hughes

E.J. Hughes is an Atlanta Georgia based tenor saxophonist who continues to contribute to the art form of Jazz. E.J. Hughes was instructed and spurred by many tenor sax legends including George Coleman, Bob Berg, Billy Mitchell, and Sam Rivers. Each encouraged him to seriously pursue this vast art. These masters gave him a deep respect for the jazz tradition while encouraging him to develop an original voice on his instrument.

In search of his own voice, E.J. recorded and released two improvisational CDs on his own all the while continuing his studies in jazz performance. In 2001, E.J. received his bachelors degree in music performance from Valdosta State University. In 2003, he received his Masters degree in Jazz Studies from Georgia State University where he was also employed as an instructor of jazz saxophone and advanced improvisation.

Currently, EJ leds his own group and teaches privately at Emory Univeristy in Atlanta, GA USA.
